hi everyone---not doing many caps, too hard with one hand, and my left one, at that---just wanted to give you an update here, as individual email proves a bit tiring at this point.
had surgery yesterday for my wrist---several things were not done correctly in Florida---but the good news is that i didn't have to have a plate put in, just screws---will be in a cast for a few weeks more, then a custom-made smaller one to allow for physical therapy, which will be several months---
thank goodness there is Duke-trained advanced hand orthopedic surgeon at my son's hospital and he knows what he's doing!
hope you are all doing well, whether back in your respective homes, on the road, or still at the beach!
Sorry to hear that your wrist required surgery, but glad you're in good hands now and should recover with complete mobility. We need you back in the saddle next year! Just stay away from spring breakers on skateboards. We made it home safe and sound. Only problem was our credit card numbers being stolen and our credit card canceled by the bank the day before we were to leave. We filed a police report. Lots of people in Santa Rosa Beach were affected. They charged over $1000 to our credit card and $1700 to one of our neighbors. I thought we were pretty careful...guess not! Take care
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys (though the springbreakers weren't on skateboards...not sure how that version started! They were walking, beer in hand as many have from early morn till night, and when I announced my passing, one jumped in front of me.) And good medical care is why I value living in larger metropolitan areas...the emergency room did the splint wrong first, then the orthopedic office did the cast wrong! Sheese!
ReplyDeleteHow on earth was your credit card number stolen???
Wish I knew how it happened and where. The police are looking at everyone's statements to see if there is a common place frequented by everyone. There are 100’s of people affected. Cops think they swipe your card on a card reader while it is out of your site (like at a restaurant) and then make a new card. Think we'll go back to cash only at restaurants!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I hope mine wasn't compromised, but you said it was people staying in Santa Rosa, right? How did you find out yours had been...cops notify you?
ReplyDeleteTried to use the card and it was denied. Got on-line and saw the charges and then call the bank. Still waiting for our new cards and on-line access.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara
ReplyDeleteWOW - you're going thru "heck".....I hope you are pain free at least ! We have 2 more sleeps - leaving Sunday morning :( I'll just have to focus on the fact it's only 7 1/2 months before we're back ! Take good care of yourself.....we'll likely chat over the summer months.....

hi raynie
Deletethanks for keeping in touch...missed seeing you before we left...cast comes off tuesday, hopefully, and am anxious for removable device to go thru rehab with and be able to use right hand again and do normal stuff for myself! take care until we meet up again :)
Hi Barb,
ReplyDeleteReal glad to hear you are in good hands with a competent surgeon and physical therapist. Hope when all is said and done, you are completely back to normal with complete mobility.
When we get back to Florida next Winter, you might want to try out my low profile recumbent. In addition to comfort, you are real close to the ground. Consequently, if you do go over, it isn't too far. With your hands down to your side, they are no more than a foot off the ground. The other advantage for you would be that there is no pressure on the hands or wrists. Although they don't make my style of bike any more, you can usually find a used one for sale on the Internet if you are interested after giving it a try. I'll have a pedal wrench with me so I can put your pedals on mine for you to try.
To Stan and Diane: If the police are able to find out which restaurant was responsible for the stolen credit card, let us all know.
Ken and Margaret
Thanks, Ken. I'll surely consider it. Take care till we meet again!
